Souad El Maysour
Souad El Maysour Born in 1970 in Casablanca, Morocco Lives and works between Strasbourg (France) and Fez (Morocco). For many years, Souad El Maysour has been working in the field of art to weave networks of convergence between different historical and cultural trajectories. Her dual culture, Moroccan and French, has enabled her to develop a sensitive and complex approach to patterns of domination between the so-called South and North. All her research is imbued with a feminist approach, enabling her to question the situation of women throughout history. One of her research focuses on the place of women artists, and their presence in creative spaces and processes. Her creations bear witness to this same preoccupation (Le Temps des regards, Fragments...). Souad El Maysour advocates an artistic practice at the crossroads of several approaches, combining observation and fieldwork, encounters and the collection of stories and experiences, physical explorations (she walks in the desert along the routes of ancient caravans) and artistic residencies. She is attentive to university research that touches on her concerns, and willingly participates in collaborative experiments that highlight the convergences and complementarities between artistic creation and university research (conferences, symposia, book publishing). Like an archaeologist of memory, Souad El Maysour immerses us in a sometimes uncomfortable exploration, but one that is necessary if we are to envisage the deconstruction of destructive, fixed totems instilled by a system of inequality production.
